Coronavirus Guide
for the EDGE District

ccc.jpg

This resource guide is being updated around the clock. As a city that prides itself on supporting local, there’s never been a more important time to buy from our incredible local businesses. Most of our local establishments will not be able to survive if we are quarantined for four weeks or more. Our favorite bars, coffee shops, boutiques, and restaurants are worried about how to make rent and payroll. Luckily, our businesses have started to make changes to ensure everyone’s safety during this tumultuous time. Below we’ve provided some general information, details on what each business in the EDGE District is doing in the wake of this virus, and business resources.

To add your EDGE District business or provide feedback, please contact Brian@EastmanEquity.co (Yep, it’s ‘co’, not ‘com’).

For this resource to have a huge impact, we need you to please SHARE this guide far and wide!

From Governor DeSantis, State of Florida, as of May 4th, 2020:

Gov. DeSantis’ “Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step Plan”  focuses on Florida’s recovery and begins with guiding principles for reopening. In addition to addressing critical health considerations and increased testing, Florida’s initial Phase 1 guidelines support the highest level of practicable business operations while maintaining health and safety.  It also identifies key metrics upon which next steps will be based.

Phase 1 – Effective Monday, May 4

  • Schools remain distance learning

  • Visits to senior living facilities are prohibited

  • Elective surgeries can resume

  • Restaurants: Outdoor seating with 6 feet of space between tables and indoor seating at 25% capacity

  • No change for bars, gyms and personal services such as hair dressers

  • Vulnerable individuals should avoid close contact with people outside the home

  • Everyone should maximize physical distance from others when in public

  • Avoid socializing in groups of more than 10 people in circumstances that do not readily allow for physical distancing

  • Face masks are recommended for face-to-face interactions and where you can’t social distance

The Governor has also released Executive Order 20-112 that further outlines Phase 1 guidelines including responsible individual activity, businesses restricted by previous executive orders, other affected business services and medical procedures.

General Information

Florida residents and businesses should refer to the CDC for up-to-date guidance on the Coronavirus.

Beginning Saturday, March 14, all Publix stores will close at 8 p.m. to allow time to restock product on their shelves.

INSIST ON USING CREDIT CARD OPTIONS, NOT CASH. Cash is dirty and carries germs. Try to take advantage of your credit and bank cards to minimize the handling of bills that may carry something extra you weren’t expecting.

BUY GIFT CARDS. Purchasing a gift card to your favorite EDGE District shop or restaurant is an immediate way to put cash into the business.

TIP A LITTLE MORE THAN USUAL. If you do go to a restaurant or bar, or when you order takeout, consider being a little extra generous on the tips for wait staff and delivery people, since their income will drop due to fewer patrons. A bigger tip may not directly contribute to a restaurant's bottom line, but it does help others and it contributes to the spirit of goodwill and appreciation in the community, which can help with everyone's mood.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TAKE-OUT OR DELIVERY. We have plenty of options available to have food delivered to our homes while still supporting local businesses. You may not be comfortable dining out at the moment but that doesn’t mean you have to eat beans on toast. Dine-in traffic is expected to slow by up to 75 percent in the next few weeks.

  • Uber Eats

  • Bite Squad

  • DoorDash Delivery

  • Grubhub

  • Postmates

Businesses that offer delivery/curbside pickup: The City of St. Petersburg has activated a new Loading Zone Program opportunity. Submit a request to have a loading zone activated on your block to keith.glasgow@stpete.org⁣

The health and safety of our friends, family, customers, and staff is the top priority. We are taking an abundance of caution and will reassess often as new information and guidelines are released by the CDC and state of Florida.

Stay tuned to our socials for any updates or changes to our hours or service options.

In the meantime, we are continuing to partner with Pup Active in maintaining and hosting the Pet Food Pantry, which offers free dog and cat food, and cat litter to anyone affected by COVID-19. Feel free to donate or pick up, no questions asked.

Bula!

With bits of our state beginning to reawaken & open back up for business, PLEASE be mindful of potential new rules that businesses have in place. Many of our local businesses who have been given the go ahead to re-open are continuing to remain either closed, or function as a contactless/to-go only environments, and we encourage you to remain patient and courteous as business owners suss out what this “new normal” means for them. We are eager to visit some of our local neighbors that are open‼️We want to encourage you to not bypass the necessary precautions, or abandon these new habits 👉🏼intentional hand washing, social distancing, disinfecting👈🏼 because these practices will aid in keeping you & I safe and healthy. We M I S S you terribly, and are continuing our To-Go only setup. Check out our website for online ordering or stop by our Tasting Room for some socially distant perusing. We love y’all & we mean it! Eager to have butts in seats soon.

Hey Hawkers Fam –

As you all know, Governor DeSantis has semi-lifted the mandatory closure of all dining rooms as of this Monday, May 4th. Restaurants in Florida will be allowed to operate at 25% capacity indoors as well as safely dispersed tables across restaurant patios. While we would absolutely love to break bread (er, Roti) with you guys while sitting around a Hawkers table catching up on great conversation, we have to make sure we are putting the safety of our team members and our guests first and foremost.

We are already taking incredibly extensive measures to ensure the safety of all takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery orders, but we also recognize that there are numerous additional steps that must be taken, beyond what has been outlined by elected officials, to ensure the safest possible dine-in atmosphere for our team and our guests. We simply need more time to implement these dine-in safety measures, while also giving our team enough notice to make the necessary arrangements for their families as they prepare for a safe and steady reopening.

We are so excited to share all of the additional measures we are putting into place that will allow Hawkers to be a safe and responsible dine-in experience. We are also excited to see all of your smiling faces gathered around a Hawkers table again. We miss your laughs, your hugs, and most of all, we just miss spending time with you. But, all of those things will come again in due time, as long as we are all doing our part to keep health & safety top of mind for everyone around us.

We will continue to offer takeout, curbside pickup & delivery until further notice, and we will continue to keep you updated on our timeline for the reopening of our dining rooms, based on the additional safety measures we have decided to implement.

Thank you so much for understanding, and thank you endlessly for your continued support. Each and every one of you mean so much to us, and we cannot wait to dine with you (safely) once again. 🧡

Hello to all of our Peaceful Warriors clients. We would like to take a few minutes and address the concerns that are stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. First and foremost, we’d like to reassure you that we take these precautions every day and are required to do so by the Florida Department of Health. Every massage room that does not have a hand wash sink is required to have hand sanitizer for the therapist to use after entering into the room to provide massage therapy. We are required to have water-resistant covers on our tables that are easily cleaned using sanitized wipes or a bleach cleaning agent. Our bathrooms are required to have anti-bacterial soap for everyone to wash their hands with. We replace sheets between clients and wash our hands in between removing the dirty linens and the clean linens. We also often sanitize the flat surfaces in our office and treatment rooms to include tablets, phones, keyboards, pens, light switches, and door handles.

We are taking every precaution to make this office safe for you and us. If we are sick or come into contact with someone that is sick, we will not come in to massage you. If you are sick or have come into contact with someone that is sick, please do not come in for your massage either. We will not charge you for missing your appointment. The symptoms are very similar to the flu. Be especially cautious if you are showing a fever. If you are immunocompromised or have respiratory issues, please take extra steps to ensure your health and wellness.

Business Resources

The Paycheck Protection Program

The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.

SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.

You can apply through any existing SBA 7(a) lender or through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating. Other regulated lenders will be available to make these loans once they are approved and enrolled in the program. You should consult with your local lender as to whether it is participating in the program.

Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program

The Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program provides short-term, interest-free working capital loans that are intended to “bridge the gap” between the time a major catastrophe hits and when a business has secured longer term recovery resources.

For inquiries, please contact the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity toll-free at 1-833-352-7759 or by email at FloridaBusinessLoanFund@deo.myflorida.com.

Bartender Emergency Assistance Program

The United States Bartenders Guild’s National Charity Foundation (USBG) has launched a program for bartenders in need of assistance during the coronavirus outbreak.

You do NOT need to be a USBG member to apply for a philanthropic grant.

The Bartender Emergency Assistance Program is meant to aid service industry personnel experiencing financial difficulties as a direct result of the outbreak. Eligible applicants can receive a grant, in undisclosed sums, to help pay their bills.

Applicants must be either a bartender or a spouse/child of a bartender and must provide proof of their immediate need.

City of St. Petersburg’s Fighting Chance Fund

To provide relief to small businesses impacted by local COVID-19 orders, the City of St. Petersburg has created the Fighting Chance Fund – an emergency grant for St. Pete’s negatively impacted locally owned and independently operated small businesses.

The fund is expected to provide critical support to about 1,000 restaurant, bar, retail, and service-based businesses and their more than 3,000 eligible employees. The City’s goal is to help offset the significant, temporary loss of revenue during this global pandemic.

This is a City program that provides grants (not loans) in the form of $5,000 to impacted eligible businesses* and $500 to impacted eligible individuals.

Pinellas CARES Small Business Grant

Pinellas County has initially identified up to $35 million in emergency relief funds to support the small businesses hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds are available as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act federal stimulus package.Pinellas County will provide emergency financial support through the Pinellas CARES Small Business Grant for qualified small businesses that are negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic due to orders to close or limit operations. This program is intended to help offset the significant, temporary loss of revenue to these qualified businesses during this pandemic, and to assist businesses in retaining and paying employees.

The program offers one-time $5,000 grants to qualifying small businesses to cover expenses such as employee wages, vendor bills and rent. The emergency relief is targeted specifically to help local brick and mortar businesses cover immediate financial needs. Grants are strictly limited to businesses located physically within Pinellas County. Funds can only be used to reimburse the costs of business interruption caused by required closures provided those costs are not paid by insurance or by another federal program.
